The Bondi is Hoka's most cushioned road shoe, and the 9 is the version that finally made it lively. Hoka switched the midsole from standard CMEVA to a supercritically foamed EVA, and lab-measured energy return jumped from 51.0% on the Bondi 8 to 60.2% — while the shoe got taller and lighter. The MetaRocker geometry does the rest, tipping you forward so the tall stack never feels like work.
