Nike Air ZoomX Alphafly Next 3% Olive Aura

Olive Aura is the quieter end of the Alphafly 3 range, a muted green that looks closer to a training shoe than a super shoe until you turn it over. Runners who dislike loud racers tend to gravitate here. Nothing about the construction is toned down, though, and this is the same platform Nike's marathon squad races in.

The ride is unusual the first time you run in it. ZoomX foam gives a deep, soft landing, the forefoot Air Zoom pods add a distinct pop as you roll through, and the carbon plate keeps everything moving in one direction. It rewards a committed forefoot or midfoot landing at pace, so run a couple of fast sessions in it before a marathon.
