Spruce Aura pairs a soft grey green Flyknit upper with the fourth generation Vaporfly platform. The knit is the main difference here, holding the foot with a little give rather than the firm grip of the standard racing weave, which tends to suit runners who feel pinched in a traditional flat over longer distances. The colour itself sits somewhere between sage and slate depending on the light.

The midsole is where the Vaporfly 4 made its biggest step. More ZoomX foam and a reshaped carbon plate produce a rounder, smoother roll than before, and the shoe stays composed when your stride shortens late in a race. Half marathons and marathons are the obvious use, with tempo work a sensible second. Knit uppers also tend to feel kinder on the first wear than a stiff racing weave.
