Nike Vomero Premium and Vomero Plus side by side

Nike sells two cushioned road shoes with Vomero on the box. They look related, they are priced within reach of each other, and plenty of runners buy the wrong one. The difference is not subtle once you put the numbers side by side.

The numbers

Vomero Premium Vomero Plus
Heel stack 50.1 mm 42.3 mm
Forefoot stack 41.3 mm 32.7 mm
Drop ~9 mm 10 mm
Weight (men’s US 9) ~326 g ~289 g
Midsole ZoomX with Air Zoom units ZoomX over ReactX

Nearly 8 mm of extra foam at the heel, and 37 grams of extra weight. In running shoes, that is not a variant — that is a different category.

Vomero Premium: maximum protection

At 50.1 mm at the heel, the Premium is one of the tallest road midsoles you can buy. It is built from ZoomX, Nike’s softest foam, with Air Zoom units embedded inside to add rebound to a stack that deep.

What that gives you is protection, not speed. It suits recovery runs, long slow miles, and runners who bottom out softer shoes — if you are heavier, or coming back from injury, or simply want the ground to disappear, this is the one.

The cost is weight and ground feel. At 326 grams it is a substantial shoe, and the toebox runs narrow, so size up half if you need width.

Vomero Plus: soft, but manageable

The Plus keeps the ZoomX top layer but sits it on ReactX carrier foam and takes 8 mm out of the stack. The ride is still very soft and bouncy — nobody would call it firm — but it is lighter on the foot and easier to turn over.

It is the better pick for easy days, recovery runs and long runs where you still want to move. It is not a tempo shoe: neither of these is.

Which one

  • Choose the Premium if your priority is cushioning above everything, you run slowly by choice, or you are a heavier runner who flattens normal trainers.
  • Choose the Plus if you want a soft daily trainer you can still pick up the pace in occasionally, or if 326 grams sounds like a lot on your foot — because it is.
  • Choose neither if you are looking for one shoe to also do your fast sessions. Pair either of these with something lighter instead.

A note on fit

Both run true to length with a narrow forefoot. If you wear thick socks or have a wide foot, half a size up is the usual answer. Our size guide has the EU, US and UK conversions.
